Three Things to Look For When Hiring A Professional Photographer

First of all, if you are a senior or an upcoming Class of 2023 senior, CONGRATULATIONS! This is such an awesome time in your life! Because you are about to close one chapter and begin the next, NOW is the perfect time to document your life with a professional portrait session! Hopefully you have been considering hiring a professional photographer, and I am here to help you know exactly what that looks like to ensure a portrait perfect session!

1. HIgh quality images

Professional photographers invest in top-level equipment to make sure that they can produce high quality images that can be printed in large format products (like canvases and wall prints) that will stand the test of time. An iPhone or even some entry level cameras just won’t cut it.

2. THE EDIT

One main factor to consider is how the images have been edited. Notice the skin tone…do the seniors in the galleries have freckles, pores, and natural skin tone? How about the lighting? Is the subject in the images bright and colorful? Is the photographer able to create backlit, light & airy, or moody images based on their lighting techniques? These aspects are important to observe because what you see in their portfolio will most likely be how your very own senior images appear?

3. THE EXPerience

Some photographers offer an entire experience, from fashion consults, longer sessions and ordering appointments, while others offer a quick session and digital images sent online. These are two very different senior photo processes that will allow you to choose which one is best for you depending on your needs. I personally offer longer sessions with lots of customization and collaboration, and personal ordering appointments to make sure that you end your senior portrait experience with finished photographic products that are ready for display!
